Always find it strange that the media make such a fuss about large robberies. Most of us regard a heist as one of the best subjects for an entertaining film judging by the popularity of the genre. Despite the best efforts of Channel 4's reporter on Thursday evening to convince us all that this was some kind of moral affront I found it all rather amusing. When she described the wharehouse as an "anonymous building" you could clearly see the words cash depository on a sign behind her and the ex-robber and ex-cop hauled out of retirement to comment were also laughing by the end of the report.
I do have sympathy for the people abducted, a most unpleasant experience no doubt. But the cash ? If its spent the economy benefits. The security company are likely to employ more people not fewer. The local police have an exciting case and an excuse to ask for more funds. Since most of us will never see even a tiny fraction of the amount stolen why should it matter to us who's got it ?
On the same day the news broke that it had been proved, though long suspected, that MI5 had witheld intelligence concerning the Omagh bombing which could have prevented the loss of life. Now that was a story, Mr Snow.

Tessa Jowell must be very grateful for bird flu. I'm so sick of how Avian flu is all the media care about.
